Cthulhu Rising Game Review

The stars are right and the time has come to summon Cthulhu from the watery depths…
A new fast play game from Twilight Creations feature the classic theme of cultists vs. investigators for two players. This particular game is quick to learn and plays pretty fast. The entire rules fit on a single sheet explaining different turns and victory conditions for each side.
The game board is simple with some fairly classic Lovecraft-inspired artwork:
Cultists on one side, investigators on the other, zero to ten at the top and a handy score total in the middle. Tiles are placed each turn and completed rows are totaled up where appropriate. Other than the artwork, there isn’t anything related to Cthulhu or Lovecraft at all. Game play is simple math and a little bit of strategy.
You win when you move the counter to 10 or beyond on your side. Sounds simple, right? It is, playing Cthulhu Rising is pretty easy and quick to explain to new players. This is certainly not a drawn out game with tons of different moves or deep strategy like Arkham Horror, but it doesn’t need to be. This one is fast and fun. You have to think on your feet a bit and guess your opponent’s next move before making yours.
All told, Cthulhu Rising akes for a fun game when you’ve got a few minutes to kill before your weekly Trail of Cthulhu RPG.
