Lord of the Rings RPG Headlines an Industry-Leading Lineup
Cubicle 7, one of the RPG industry’s leading publishers, today took the wraps off a 2011 schedule that also makes it the most prolific. With four major RPG core games being released, and over 100 products on the 2011 schedule, Cubicle 7 is the biggest supplier of new titles in the RPG industry.
The One Ring: Adventures over the Edge of the Wild launches a new line based on the grandfather property of fantasy: J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Lord of the Rings hasn’t been represented in gaming for several years, and Cubicle 7, in partnership with Sophisticated Games, promises a new approach that will invigorate fans of this highly-developed and much-loved universe—as well as pull in a whole new generation of gamers. “The strength of this property speaks for itself,” commented Dominic McDowall-Thomas, Director of RPG Development at Cubicle 7. “We are delighted to be bringing Tolkien’s world back to tabletop roleplaying. It’s a hugely exciting project for us and, based on the reaction we’ve received so far, for gamers around the world.”
Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space is being relaunched in a new edition built around the eleventh Doctor. Tapping into the perennially popular TV series, with its great following among gamers and non-gamers alike, this is an excellent game for new players as well as established RPG fans. The new edition features all-new art and layout, aliens and creatures from the Doctor’s latest adventures, and a new adventures book specifically for this edition.
Another key title is Airship Pirates. Based on the universe created in the music of Abney Park, this is the superlative steampunk roleplaying game. Abney Park is the most influential force in steampunk music—perhaps the entire steampunk subculture—which makes it an interesting basis for a roleplaying game. “This game might have the potential to draw in fans of steampunk the way Vampire tapped into the Goth subculture twenty years ago,” said Angus Abranson, Director of New Business Development. “Keep your eye on this one—it might turn out much bigger than you expect!”
Primeval is based on the hit TV series in which a band of scientists protect our world against prehistoric and futuristic creatures appearing through temporal anomalies. Players can take on the roles of the TV heroes or create their own band of dinosaur hunters and time travelers. With Season 4 concluding now and Season 5 scheduled for this Autumn, the Primeval RPG is set to make the most of this popular property.
In addition to these new lines, each of which will be fully supported, Cubicle 7 continues support for its The Laundry, Victoriana, Starblazer Adventures, Legends of Anglerre, and Qin RPGs, along with its Cthulhu Britannica line. Over 100 total products are scheduled for release in 2011.
Primeval and Doctor Who: Adventures in Time and Space launch in Spring/Summer 2011. The One Ring: Adventures over the Edge of the Wild and Airship Pirates launch in Summer 2011. Visit www.cubicle7.co.uk for more information on these games and the entire Cubicle 7 lineup.
